Rejoice! - Luke 10:20

"Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." (Luke 10:20)

This principle is one that we should think of often. Think of what the disciples had experienced just prior to this. They had been given power to heal diseases, heal all manner of sickness, and even to cast out devils and they had returned from their commission rejoicing of their miraculous success. The Lord Jesus said unto them not to rejoice in this, but to rejoice that their names were written in heaven.

Their ability to do these miracles was not going to be lasting, but the fact that their names were written in heaven would never change. This is true today for us. We have experience occasional successes that are grounds for great joy. We get a long awaited promotion with a pay raise, we our children doing the things that we have taught them, we see them even experiencing success in their lives, but in these things rejoice not, but rather rejoice that your names are written in heaven. In other words place more joy in the fact that your names are written in heaven.

Christ came into this world and took a body of flesh that we might be in heaven. Oh what cause of great joy. Joy that shall never be disappointed. The many providential blessings are indeed something to be thankful for and to rejoice over, but these blessings can disappointed. The things in this world are temporal, not lasting, but our names are written in heaven, and they can never be removed. Praise God!! Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Even our heavenly Father will not take us away from His love. Let us rejoice that our names are written in heaven and have a blessed day!
